2 Busy, REALY!!!

Image
I haven't been posting cause, I've been very busy. I've been getting more sleep in the morning and at night for fear of the "bug" going around in the office. Already some of the guys are suffering the sniffles and I can't afford to waste my time recovering for anything at the moment. So I've been late to work and had less time to blog. Although I try to take as little time as possible to make my posts (hence my lack of grammar or spelling checks), Lately there hasn't been enough time to post. Since I get to work late, these past few days, I've had to compensate. News : 1- Both brother-in-laws had their Bdays, dinner with folks. 2- I'm late for a deadline and playing catch up next week. 3- I'm still struggling to lose my belly, to lighten my build for the airsoft games. 4- Got the f*cking uniden 6mile radios to work handsfree! 5- Been "reading" Sherlock Holmes. After having "read" it, I have my own opinions and realizatio

Wow, I figured it out! I almost amaze my self everytime I figure out something for myself. I always doubt that I could figure it out, and just feel so good proving myself otherwise. I wish my life has more of those kick ass moments.

Reckless Driving Scam

If you drive around makati from work then you might have experienced the "reckless driving scam" it is a scam because any violation you may make, will be augmented by a reckless driving. It is a simple game: the corrupt policeman will give you a simple choice: pay P2000 for a crime you didn't commit or bribe them with P1000 and save your self time and in return gain the terrible feeling of violation. This classic Scam or Con, is simple and can be done over and over again and has no way for the motorist to defend himself. Because to defend his OWN rights will require him ot spend a lot of time in the RED TAPE of the makati goverment to argue otherwise. No matter what you do you lose: either money and time fighting for your rights or just money and your sense of security at a goverment that can freely steal away your rights. If you know better, they will push the P2000. They will drag you down, with the bias of their tellers and the absence of the accused officer who gave
The Stand . finished it today. It was 33 hours long. Work today . Before Lunch I spent, most of the time organizing. I spent some 2 - 2 1/2 hours in Starbucks conceptualizing the office space. It was a lot of work. In just the matter of color, a new dimension to it was texture, which added to the complexity of judging aesthetics. Then there was lighting, depth, space, and the shift in perspective when a person moved from one part of the room to the other. If that wasn't enough, i had to manage the computer's resources competently, then there was the matter of coordinating some modifications with MIS and checking on the writing for the company marketing. It is a really challenging prospect to design and imagine a structure that made sense, was practical and, of course, was appealing. With my other responsibilities I feel extremely stretched thin. I forgot to mention that I had to make all the furniture realistic or part of our inventory (other than the fact that I had to invent

Some stories

The Stand, by Stephen King . Its pretty inspiring for a game. Although at roughly 30 hours, it is an epic to listen to. I have my own Ideas for the cast. Frannie - any photogenic white girl next door of early 20s that match the description. Currently i'm using this anonymous picture with just darker hair. Don't want an established actress that would have a well known character to associate her image to. Stu - The protagonist in Harold - One of the guys from Super Bad. Larry - the jack ass guy in dukes of hazzard. Ralph - moon-shine making uncle in that car jumping tv series, particularly the one in the movie version Glen - Same as Mini Series or John Hurt. Judge Farris - Anthony Hopkins Nick - This very young actor who looks like Ben Folds when he was younger. Can't forget the name, he would be Perfect! Flag - A young Cy Powers with wild long hair and fit Or a younger Ian McShane. Nadine - This one is tough, she should look good with a skunk tail or with white hair. Voluptu

Almost 5...

Ok, I have a lot to do. I may have to stay late tomorrow to make sure everything is fine for saturday. Anyway, been busy and haven't had much of a break. Still been working straight. Jogging . I can hold almost 5 mins at 7kph. Not bad, not great, but it will have to do. Jogging would be the best to bring up my stamina. Basically have a pulse going roughly 120+ per minute. Although, I should jog every other day, I think everyday would be better for habit forming purposes. I realized the more fit I am the less sleep I need. There was a time I could sleep roughly 4-5 hours a day and feel grrrreat! (that was first year college, and I worked out 2x a day). Moving forward, I really have to take advantage of my positive attitude add more momentum to my life. Unfortunately, there are alot of things cooking/stewing in me these days. The problems I'm solving are pretty hard, technical problems that I have to figure out on my own and with little aid with the 3d community because of the po

Helping Others Succeed

Something My dad actually told me . right now other than working, I'm actually finding the time to help friends and trouble shoot some of their prorblems. Among these are a friends' wife Multimedia career challenges, to business opportunities in their province, getting their novel in the market in the most advantageous medium and other stuff I can't recall right now but are noted down in my little black notebook. The nice thing about these things is that it allows me to learn and put to test so many of the theories I have floating in my head. Some of the time, I realized, the People who can best answer your problems are people who are not burdened by those problems. Basically, someone from an outside perspective has something to offer to those who are in the thick of the problem. Other than the expertise that I'm honing, which I get to practice in these little projects, I get experience, understanding and priceless insight into other things. Help can be a selfless act,

Today is Tuesday.

Listening . Battleground, Jerusalems Lot, One For The Road and Boogeyman. The stories were fun. I found them scary and kinda inspiring for a game to run. Hmmm... Jack, my high school composition teacher and Trisha's cousin, liked one of my works. I liked writing early and since I had a vivid imagination growing up. I do admit I am no writer, listening to all these audio books makes me want to be BUT, listening to them reminds me the market I'm after may not have enough time to read my books and might be better listening to them. I want to try making one with my friends novel, if he'd let me. (a discussion in a friends egroup) If you're a Gamer , the new DMG4e has some interesting refined points about gaming that would be best addressed as a group. Mainly, on the topic of GM and Player expectations. One edge and learning experience I have with GMing I can apply as I am learning computer game design is the skill of catering to your players, which can be substituted with &

Busy Weekend

After work . Chat and I bummed in the house. I wanted to fix the desktop: the only part that is left that could be causing the problems was the 4+ year old hard drive. My wants and what my body wants are two different things and unwinding after a meeting that I bottled up all my fears for need time wasted away... until I figure out a more constructive way to and muster up the will to act. Dinner with Nikos and Nel . We met up with Nel at National Bookstore Podium, where I spend P2000 on the architecture section for books on Office interior design. We later moved to Dencios, had dinner, and talked about all the geeky stuff you can imagine: Gaming Styles, Friends and their POV, the metaphysical, American Politics, and of course History. We of course had an update what was going on in each others lives since we last talked... a few months ago. Chat hated the Pugad Baboy Theme of Dencios. She and her family were fans of the comic when they were younger and she found it severely misplaced

Saturday and there is work

Work . well I did good work, to everyone's satisfaction... although I AM aware of the bias for being the son of the owner. Still, I feel our new CEO made everyone frank in their comments. Anyway I asked for 2 more weeks, cause I have some ambitious ideas and I may be kicking myself in the nuts with them... so this may be a good cushion. I have a impact presentation to work on, artistic product stills for the office-give-away calendars, original-abstract furniture, and lighting lighting lighting... :P I'm Off to SnR to buy pizza for lunch for both my wife and me.

Been Listening to

The Great Gatsby . It would have been better to read it and to have a dictionary present. The words used are so unused these days that I forgot their meaning. The story is nice, I'm glad I didn't spend much time reading and I was able to get a lot of work done listening to it. The Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli . Fun, my kind of stuff. In fact it makes me think of the 16th century and games I have the proficiency to run... BUT i don't like that age so much. In terms of a card game or incorporating that kind of intrigue in Mahadlika RPG, that I can do.

Outsourcing

Whats so wrong about moving to an developing country ? Ok as many of us has observed, work is slowly being outsourced to developing countries that have the required technical skills but much lower labor pay. Imagine how people of the developed world would react when their profession of choice is being outsourced to cheaper labor abroad for the savings. As I see it, the trend for people of developed countries would be to take their technical skills an augment it with management skills moving the business the same direction. you may have lost a crew of 10 or so technical jobs to those of the developing world, but those 10 people can train with the companies goals in mind (or for start their own business) for management and take care of the business abroad. The pay raise may not be much more or even less because of the expenses but the standard of living improves dramatically. What I begin to realize is barriers are broken and minds become more open in the globalization of labor. We don&#

Slowly getting ready

A game is a far priority for me . Especially since I have no players. Actually I'm planning to buy the Torque Game Engine when I find the time to tinker with it and immerse myself in game design proper. So far I'm trying to make an effort to get into the game mindset. When I prep the game, I don't really have any players but I know do want to run a game (for old times sake). I want to run Dark Age medieval, either the Crusades with Alexius/Alexoi. I've read up enough about the crusades, thanks to Thomas' gift of a whole book that details it and I have a huge reserve of material and sources of extras. The audio books I've been listening to has helped maintain some of my narration skills. In terms of organizational skills and story, my knowledge of the matter has not changed much but is way more than sufficient. I have to admit that the preparation I make borders on true passion and I have to say only few other GMs I know study so hard and they are scattered in eu

A lot of work

Lighting . a whole day could be lost callibrating light. When you think it could be as easy as setting a bunch of bulbs, then comes the realization that outside environmental light works in a different setting from indoor lighting and all your indoor work is lost. Slow progress . Its almost five, Grabeh the program is having an error. Oh well. Chat was off early and I'm off to pick her up. Don't know what to eat, mom asked me to eat with her and we had Vietnamese style home made lumpia (rolls) and bangus (milkfish). Not hungry, anyway I have to clean up. maybe aries can drive me to the condo to avoid the rain... hopefully i don't need the help.

work work wrok...

anyway got some stuff finished . * Understood some basic light principles * I've made some "assets" aka room props (took an hour or two) but I have a better idea for a design right now. * had to work without an undo button! * strangely this ORIGINAL vista has been having self doubt of its own authenticity... no wonder people hate vista. I hate vista personally but it is the only OS that would go to 8gig ram :( I need the ram. This is supposed to be 64 bit architecture but it seems the IT guy wasnt given an option to install it as 64bit... maybe i missed something in the fine print. Right now I'm trying to make the undo work. It's been dramatically slowing my work flow. Now I'm feeling my mentors burden, when 3ds Max is not working the way it should. In 2 weeks they will be installing Call Center bandwidth internet! Whohooo! access to all these sites normally too high a bandwidth to access.

Very Busy and Still Weak

How busy? Very. Damn, I don't have any clue where to find time to do my usual compulsive stuff. I have to admit that my temper has gotten shorter. All work and no fun makes Nik a crazy crazy. Wedding . We couldn't attend the reception last Sunday, because Chat and I just started to feel weak after being out of the house for an hour or two. One thing is to feel better, another is to feel better the whole day. Other than work, nothing much to talk about... really thats my life right now. Being sick ate up the cathartic part :(

the anino raid

[old news] Anino Raid . Talking to some autodesk service people and my boss who is a veteran 3d modeler and animator, for learning purposes Autodesk won't really chase after the small fry. In fact Piracy is one of the best ways of building a large User base for a program. If you think about it, the cost of the software and the cost to train people to use it makes for it a terribly expensive investment. Small time piracy, is in the equation of every major software company. Its an unspoken rule, all they have to do is leak it and not act on the piracy and they will have an edge over their competitor. These companies don't have active dedicated agents looking for pirated copies, why else are all the major computer pirate Why should they, it takes some effort to chase after every small fry that pirates to study 3ds max, not to mention this is already the Standard strategy of getting the program out and having more people trained in them. Of course if you start having a profitable b

The only time you should be worried about being raided is if you can afford to pay and you're not paying. Its not hard to spot a company who is earning THAT MUCH. It's the MEDIA business and getting your stuff out is what makes

samsung quality

grrr.... oh well. :( Just teaches me that the samsung is the low end brand with the low end quality. The samsung dvd-writer not only is choosy with disks but causes these programs to hang while installing. This was purchased early this year. :(

almost fit to work.

in a scale of 1 to 10 . 10 being fit as my previous working condition two weeks ago, and 1 was how I felt last sunday and monday. I'm at a 6, I have a good hunch that I will be at a 7 tomorrow and be ready for work. The cold is still too harsh for me, although i'm using the aircon now to keep the overcharged Powersupply cool while i install nessary components to my computer. Scared . first worry is: will I have enough time. Things would certainly be different if I was healthy, 1 particular fortune is that I wouldn't have needed a 1 month notice before resigning, something my sickness waived w/o question for me. I can't think of what could have happened with me being healthy resigning, probably a lot of shit hitting electric powered blades. Work delay . Well I'm almost back to full capacity and part of my self conditioning was being mentally ready and charged by around 9 o'clock. with a meal, my coffee and my notes I'm ready to jump into work. I remember bein

feeling better.

I guess the phlegm and mucus suppressants help . Comfort contributes in the healing process more than i give it credit for. Desktop troubles right now . i'm still having desktop troubles when I fixed almost everything: new mother board, new ram, new power supply... what now? new hard disks? Goya . I'm trying to check out alternative chocolate sources. I should research how much chocolate production is in the Philippines, at least get the ball park figure. I guess there would be some stats on that and from one of the government agencies in economics. Or I can just taste test the new chocolate products from the local brands. I remember the philippines growing a lot of cocoa in the early 20th century, I wonder if we still produce a lot of chocolate.

The computer now has the power... BUT

now its OVERHEATING! WTF? I got it upgraded so that it was more optimized for work but I couldnt finish installation twice and on the second time, i accidentaly touched my CPU and it was hot, too hot. I don't get it? So the Enermax 625W was good, but too good? Anyway, I'm still sick to fix it so I'll yesterday . I was still sick but I had so much to do: go to the doctor, buy meds, buy that Enermax power supply for the computer. (if your getting a tricked out video card you might be needing a new powersupply to go with it). oh well... what am i to do?
