LARP: Live Airsoft Role-Playing

Image
Mil-Sim Bah! Its more like LARPing if you make this much "Porma" (Posing to look good) honestly. Pictures are thanks to Mr. Dulay

Another Sample of Corruption

Living with Corruption . I've been following the Philipine Airsoft Forums and found out that when I registered my gun and filed for a Permit to Transport they screwed with me to get me to pay more. This isn't the Nth instance I got screwed because of how I look and how I approach the situation. The most recent occurance of me being screwed was when I applied for a replacement license because I lost it having to keep going in and out of villages (which Pisses me off) as some villages don't accept regular IDs. The "Tactic" they did was give me an ambigous problem with my renewal which was forcing me to go all the way (1 hour away because of traffic + it was nearing lunch break) to push me to make a bribe. Learning to live with this is part of living in the Philippines. I don't have to like it, but thankfully I can afford to take time out of work to fix these problems. I'm just sorry for the poor honest sap these people take advantage off who don't have m

Here are some pictures of Camp Malauak. One interesting thing about airsoft is how much nature time I get compared to what a normal city dweller gets.

Fighting Depression with Materialism

Obsessing about guns and keeping my urges under control . Ok it helps to have a long range plan for expense and a way to make sure that what you need (or what will enhance your fun now) will be arrange sequentially according to a budget over time expense. I guess the Airsoft thing is what is filling my void right now. I feel numb career-wise. I don't know where I'm going and honestly I'm scared to look. I'm doing the website right now, and its tricky moving so carefully or I may stumble on some toes again. I don't like treading lightly, especially when there is so much going on that I don't know about. Its not simple, or there is no real way to exert any authority for me without using my influence as the owners son. That kind of advantage is best only in certain situations, but in any attempt to gain credibility in matters of duties (instead of matters of legitimacy) I have to defer to standard channels. Right now, I have a conflict and question of authority. t

A lot of things, but nothing to write about

Post Apoc Game . It was ok, Nicos gave me an A- given that it was run after work and given the circumstance I was pretty spent before the game began. We also had a time problem and a 5th player that made me realize 4 highly participative players is the best number for me.  Airsoft . Had an interesting game yesterday, got shot up pretty bad by players who were to trigger happy to notice my gun was already up, I took 2-3 seconds of almost continual fire even when another player was beside me watched me get hit. Again a run up with zombies, but they were the exception in the site. There was a quick respawn in the 1st 5 minutes and they were able to "magically" withstand an assault from a machine gun. Even when we were out, we watched our allies play and saw 1st hand the "zombie" action when the guy didn' choose to acknowledge the hit, even when his allies saw him also take it. Personally i want to know the group well, to not only avoid them but to show that I real

Something that Deserves Attention (Pun intended)

The Poverty of Attention . ... just click on the lower right blue text to continue to the next article regarding Attention Corruption and the Game . Many Filipinos are currently struggling to understand corruption and how to stop it. Personally, i feel that they could be looking at it with more secular-humanist eyes than with the presumption that all people are inherently "good". Surprisingly I had to re-examine what this means in the light of secularist-humanist point of view. People are NOT inherently good, because good is a purely circumstantial and shifting concept. The world is not about "Preventing" Evil... instead it is about making things work and for the mutual gain, respect and security of all... and to describe this as "good" may make one fall in the rationalizing hole that religion has left in everyone's psyche. Corruption is a System, a parasitic one, which exists to reward those who perpetuate it. People are not corrupt to perserve the Id

More about Guns

Well, I'm not planning to be a gun nut but I can see why it is such an attractive thing when you get to know more about it. Guns are like Horses, there are different "breeds" that came together under different circumstances. Manufacturing Limitations, Budget, Time, and Variations in Priorities is what created the huge variety of gun species out there. They slowly improve, but they still suffer some key physical limitations that can not be overcome until the advent of super-science. As a product of economic scale, manufacturing limitations, and human priorities guns will be a round even when we have the power to colonize the stars. After Honorverse and re-imagining what technology, economics, sociology and history has made clear about the future: wars in the vastness of space will still use guns like the AK47. Realizations: About Missles and Torpedoes . Being someone who began from anime, I liked the aesthetics of blossoming tendrils of missile swarms popular in almost any

Cheating

We came from Km18, after Camp Malauak proved to be no show. Airsoft Day . It was a whole day thing, and unlike before I didn't make too many prep mistakes (because no one kept me up past 2am). It was not such a bad experience, KM 18, to be frank, have no control over their players. I was surprised that a fist fight began in the first game we got in there. If you consider it quite rationally, some of the things we notice made a lot of sense after considering what happened. When we arrived an observed a game, there was already a near tussele. There was One marshal, and he didn't call anything. The organizers were so quick to point out the redeeming value of the site when we first got there. This is the first time for us to hear a "sales" talk when it came to a site. Unlike in previous sites, people were more keenly aware of our guns and our load out. There was no homogeneous team among the site vets that can give a clue to teamwork or coordination. Our group have coordi

Overwhelmed with too many Ideas

This happens, being too overwhelmed with ideas, from time to time. Of course, these days I know better than to act on too little information as well as managing expectations. Cabuyao Plant . Yesterday, I've come from the plant in Cabuyao. A factory tends to produce a lot of "waste"; especially a customized solutions fabrication plant. One particularly interesting thing about going this plant is the way they treated me. Being son of the owner tends come with some privileges, particularly being treated like a prince. A modest, particularly a humble demeanor tends to emphasize their insistence to treat one like minor royalty. I figure it merely a remnant part Philippine of hospitality from the Spanish era. My brother, Gaspars, modest/humble and helpful reputation tends to also immediately grant some immediate rapport based merely on positive association. I need to mention also that many of the supervisors of this plant used to be the employees my parents began their business

Incoherent Previous Post

It was late, (as one can see in the time stamp) and I'm not a writer (my constant excuse). Although being disorganized is something I have cannot make excuses for since I am supposed to be an entreprenure. Buying Airsoft Stuff: Expect no sticker prices . Since Airsoft has some legal problems left over from Marcos' martial law period (simply that that states any PROJECTILE throwing implement is illegal; and don't get me started at how Filipinos don't have the right to bear arms- and how that it is why we are in this mess) shops are discrete and really don't pay any taxes or have any permits on the matter. It is basically buyer beware. Canvas, Canvas, Canvas . Airsoft is rather an expensive sport, so taking your sweet time to get all the prices and Quantifying why your' getting into this hobby is important. Write it (priorities and price notes) down, so that once you commit you can go back to why and not get all to frustrated with the prices. Choose your merchant

H&K G3A3 T3-K3

Image
I got this dressed down version of the G3A3 at vincent's shop in St. Francis Square in front of Mega Mall on sale for Php 3,950 ($79). When I saw it at Tuks shop they were selling it at Php4,400 (and +500, in other shops). It was "clocking" at 375 feet per second with 0.2g BBs. As compared to the wiki link, it doesnt have any "rails" meant for scopes, tactical lights, lasers or any extras. It is basically dressed down and VERY light. As a second gun, its primary purpose is to serve as a back up. Its secondary purpose is to get other people I "Drag" along addicted, the way the best drugs are reserved for starters. This gun, so far is VERY accurate for an out-of-the box model. It is good at the 20m range tested, but It may be accurate to as far as 30-35m with enough force to make the target notice. At the 30m range, newbies will be less frustrated because they don't have much farther to crawl or move. Second, its very light and perfect for beginne

So far away

its work-out season . I've noticed that its work out season for me. This is around the time of the year my energy levels are up or most likely, my guilt has reached a limit to a point that I'm motivated to excersize. So I'm going to be playing more airsoft and pushing my pain threshold farther because of it. The nervous tension coupled with the adrenaline is a powerful mix to push one's own mental barriers. There is some depression that comes also, yearly. Hopelessness is a feeling I get when too many expectations fall short and I don't feel I'm working towards the goal I want to move towards. I feel this being a universal truth: when people don't see a future pay off that they want and can only see losses, it brings them to depression. I noticed only lately how much I'm more jerk-ish and glutenous about some temporal things. The dieting has something to do with it, since I can't buy my 2-piece spicy chicken joy without suffering the after effect of

Multi-Tasking a Myth: the Science of Concentration

I knew it! Well if you've been following me, after understanding how it is not multi-tasking its fast sequential processing. Anyway, I really need to follow the advice in this article. I bet it will allow me to form a productivity strategy in the long run to reduce work hours but increase productivty +20% to +50%. this is a Joke . A government with no credibility is offering a "bounty" on political killings. What is that supposed to do? You stop political killings by getting more expedient justice, giving the Press more freedom and protection, and giving people the ability to protect themselves. You just can't change the status quo with just token words or throwing money at the problem. In GT you use what advantage you have, regardless of moral or ethical dilemas- which is especially true with the oligarchs and the warlords here. Why would they stop killing? Its the most effective way to be rid of an opponent and the government has proven that they can get away wit

Health Mostly

Airsoft . almost 60 meters engagement range. Although since there is no place to practice shooting, except on the game days itself, It takes me roughly 2 seconds to get on the bead on a target that far. Basically I can see the BBs and I adjust accordingly, literally hosing down my foe. I should be consider getting a scope... but thats too spendy. Healing . I have a nasty canker sore which is a symptom of my resistance going down (and its right at the center base of my tongue). I find myself spitting phlegm in the morning as well, and sleeping around 4-6 hours these past few days, not helping. I want to have plans on friday night, but I really need to sleep and rest. I'm working out again. I realized a way around the kiddy pool's limitations: a swimming cord. Basically a cord that will hold me back while I swim against it. I can make one with the ropes we have here for hanging clothes and what was suppsed to be used for my bow project that never got off the ground. So I just nee

Finally Got it working

Image
2 things I just got working: Our scx-4200 samsung 3 in one printer in ubuntu. my Php250 AK magazine. Took a while, probably 2 hours on getting several things to work on ubuntu: the nvidia driver, the free 3d fps game, and the printer. The AK mag probably took a total of 3 hours. So I spent the total of 5 hours today problem solving. I admit that Ubuntu requires someone who is willing to spend time to fiddle with it, which makes it a poor work computer (because of the time pressure of work related problems) IF it is highly technical work. Some of the Guys and Me (on the rightmost). Camp Co lorado . 5 unconfirmed kills, unconfirmed because of zombie-ing. Note to self: team RAM are notorious cheaters. 4 hours for intital mission (10:30am to 2:30pm), plus 1 hour suiting (3:30 to 4:30) up my friend who almost had a heart attack, and One more mission at 4:30 to 5:30 . Total Performance was ok, team RAM was frustrating. And their cheating was so blatant that a marshal had to approach one of

Self Medication

A friend almost had a heart attack. Almost can be both a really small or big deal. The thing is, it was good that were were generally level headed enough to understand what was happening. Our friend was in his early 40s, suffering many heart and respiratory conditions, he's taking maintenance, and he hasnt been in any previous strenuous activity. Suffice to say, when he came, suited up and walked to our base camp he almost collapsed. Logically what could have happened was a heart attack. Especially when blood pumping and the heart working so hard was already making his world spin. Then I remember that he touched on the physical preps the other guys who were making: by drinking a lot of gatorade. C'mon there was already a study about gatorade and its effect on giving children stones, this is salt we're dealing with. Combined with a 40 yr-old terribly out of shape and obesse man: you're asking for a heart attack. Anyway, a personal trait of this friend is that he keeps th

Game Tomorrow

Larp . Well the Camp Colorado Game is tomorrow. I'm going to be LARPING modern combat, or as these guys call it: Airsoft. Yes, i freely admit that Airsoft is like larping, except that it focuses on simulation more than the role-playing aspect. Things new people must know about airsoft: . Is it hard? No, especially when you have a good team. Although, don't expect to be killing a lot of opponents. The easiest but an underestimated role in modern combat is suppressive fire. Suppressive fire, is a way for your allies to move towards their objective by preoccupying opponents with your "strategically" dangerous fire. Crawling is a basic movement that is both very tiring and very effective. Almost anyone can do it, and the smaller you are and the lighter load out the better. Starting out, contrary to carrying light arms, battle rifles or medium to long ranged guns are best for beginners IMO. that would be the Jing Gong Ak Tactical as the best, followed by the other longer
