Fighting Depression with Materialism

Obsessing about guns and keeping my urges under control. Ok it helps to have a long range plan for expense and a way to make sure that what you need (or what will enhance your fun now) will be arrange sequentially according to a budget over time expense.

I guess the Airsoft thing is what is filling my void right now. I feel numb career-wise. I don't know where I'm going and honestly I'm scared to look. I'm doing the website right now, and its tricky moving so carefully or I may stumble on some toes again. I don't like treading lightly, especially when there is so much going on that I don't know about.

Its not simple, or there is no real way to exert any authority for me without using my influence as the owners son. That kind of advantage is best only in certain situations, but in any attempt to gain credibility in matters of duties (instead of matters of legitimacy) I have to defer to standard channels. Right now, I have a conflict and question of authority. there are two artists who have duties to do the marketing work right now, at the same time there are a bunch of little things they have to do.

They have to come up with several work and please several masters. Which is very screwed up. There is no straight line of authority and responsibility, and that is a serious problem. The reason, in what I can observe, why there isnt any straight line of authority, responsibility, and liability is because of the many undefined bounderies and clear charter of expectations.

Ideally, they should not be getting orders from me. they should be getting orders from who ever is in charge with them and someone liable if the organization of priorities arent kept straight.

What is happening is that, I order them to work on a project, and some other people also order them to do stuff... and no one tracks what they're supposed to do. Ideally, their manager is supposed to arrange all priorities for all parties and their respective projects. The manager is the gatekeeper for those who wants access of the services and must be able to compensate and re-allocate the service without eating up valuable company resources. Also, it is up to the manager to set up a reward, punishment, motivation and evaluation system for these specialists.

A tall order, but the manger must be able to have the experience how much time the project will take to be done and how to arrange the reasources (time and material). From my experience with my mentor in my 3d Animation stint, he had one of the best blends of leadership, organization and responsibility.

He gave as tasks to do every day, We had objectives to reach and he talked to us about how much time it should take us to do it while considering our limited experience and ability. He also set up the "buffer" time for deadlines, managed expectations of project sponsors (in light of labor and man power) and set the pace and work ethic of the team.

Now, I'm just in a limbo like trance. Just get this done and then chug allong to the next problem. I feel like I can never really reach my dreams and must deal with any opportunity in arms reach instead of setting out on something I really want. I've become so jaded that I'm begining not to care anymore.

I may have had an exciting project in prospect 2 weeks ago, but I don't know if that will really happen right now. Right now is a very deep void and I'd like to enjoy myself by filling that void with material things. Material things like guns. What can I do anyway? Right now my hands are tied, and I can just keep chugging along slowly with the progress right now.

Considering my Urges, I want to do the following

  • G3 mags x2 for myself
  • Electric Loading Double AK mags
  • Gass Powered Replica Pistol of at least 300fps
  • Fix my current gun problem (the modular grip lost a special bolt, I'll be spending 300 to replace it sadly)
  • I want to fix the "den" so that I can keep better track and order of my tools and gear.
  • I want to go to Divisoria and buy a bunch of cheap 80php black and olive drab cotton T shirts and a large Bolt of our team's Cammo
  • I want to get a new Battle Dress Uniform with the modifications I want.
  • create a silk screen pattern of our team logo, large and small for Tshirts and to put in our stuff (like gun bags)
  • Paint my Byzantine Figs
  • Spend Php 5,000 for the neccessary capital and tools for proper minature painting set up.
  • Find more time to write
  • Find time to prep the New Logo design
  • Get personal patches and heraldry made for my BDU
  • Fix my Radio Head Sets to be more secure.
  • Build my own Powered Box Magazine.

· Prices can go +10% lower depending on your haggling ability.

· Prices are the lowest anywhere else! Infact, this is the main supplier of all major commercial Airsoft stores.

· Radios 12 miles cost around Php 8,000

Recommended Patterns

· "CadPat" Best for the brighter and dry shade of Philippine foliage

· "Digital Jungle" Best for the wetter and darker shade of Philippine foliage

Custom Battle Dress recommendations:

· High Waist (because activity rides the pants down)

o Ideally with Suspender Holds

· Long Hem (Past heel, to protect ankles from crawlies)

· Long Top (Shirt extends below the crotch)

· Elbow Pads Reinforcement (straps of nylon canvas to loop Elbow pad straps to through, to prevent it from moving out of place)

· Knee Pads Reinforcement (straps of nylon canvas to loop Knee pad straps to through, to prevent it from riding down)

Qualities of a Good Starting Gun

· Medium to Long Range: Why? Because, The longer the range, the less the newbie has to move. Running, Stalking, Crawling and Crouching can be very tiring. The less of that one has to do, the better. Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Guns are very short ranged and may be tempting for a beginner. But the price difference and the short range will be quickly regrettable in the long run.

· Bulk, is More Less? A gun with a good range, needs a long barrel (There is some physics here that I will explain some time else). It would be tempting to get a smaller gun, not only for its weight but for its Bulk. Often and in many critical moments, rifles get tangled up in the foliage, but in my experience, this doesn't compare to the problems of having a short accurate range. Its better to be losing against nature, not to someone who has a better range than you.

Good Starting Gun less than Php 4,400 + 800 for extra magazines

· Jing Gong AK Tactical php 4350 - 5500.

o A 455mm barrel and starts at roughly 380-360 fps out of the box. Unfortunately, very much like the real AK, accuracy may be something lacking despite its power. Down, the line, the primary upgrade to consider would be a tighter barrel for tighter shot grouping. Critically the favored gun by many gunsmiths, for its ruggedness. The AK starts at the highest Hi-cap Magazine Capacity at 600.

o Extra Mags cost around 300-400

o Typically, Upgrades would cost around 5,000 PHP: for a tighter (and typically longer barrel (455mm to 509mm or up), stronger spring, metal bushings, metal spring guide, and zero slot spring case(?). Ask your gun smith to maximize internal durability.

o Springs degrade after 20,000 rounds (5 bags) by around -40 fps.

o 6-7lbs (3kg)

· Jing Gong G3 T3K3 Php 3950-4400.

o This very long rifle, with a barrel of 509mm. This uncommon gun is actually the IMO the best starting gun for newbies. Its Very light at 4-5lbs (2kg) and has a very good starting FPS (380-360) out of the box. its longer barrel gives it added velocity as the BB will be accelerating longer.

o Drawback- Hard to Find Mags. The G3 is a gun used during the 1960s and is considered more of an anachronistic gun, which doesn't fit modern simulations.

o With the second highest, Hi-Cap Mag capacity at 500 rounds.

· M16 A4 Php 5,500-6,500. The most common gun in the hobby.

o This is a very common rifle, and a very expensive one. The most conflicting aspect of this gun, for me, is that it IS the most common gun found in many stores and has the most accessories available for it but its expensive.

o 300 round Magazine, Php 300-400 pesos

Other Guns to Consider

· M4 A1 Php 4,500 to 6,000

o Short Barrel 368mm,

o Same Mag as as the M16, 300 rounds.

· M14 Php 4,000 to 5,000

o A very long barrel 559mm, a good range

o Same Mag as as the M16, 300 rounds.

· Accuracy International Arctic Warfare aka L96 Php 2,900 - 3,000

o Bolt Action, unlike the other rifles this one in not electric powered.

o out of the box, 460 fps, 660mm barrel

o appropriate only in milsim and players you know

o Ideal mods would bring the spring to the strongest possible grade and a "tighter barrel"

o Doesnt come with a Scope, Scopes cost Php 1,500 to 2,500
