UVW mapping

Its hard... I mean really hard . It takes a ton of time and I'm surprised it wasn't covered back in school. I'd understand why its much easier to do high tech scenes since there arent much in texture and materials but going realistic and gritty its a nightmare to make stuff. Anyway, I'm figuring it out as I go along. I Understand now that professional game modelers usually take a couple of hours to model a 700 face object in detail. Its an interesting thing to learn and a good standard to set when modeling stuff. Budgeting my time and having several goals in place should make this go pretty fast. I was modeling the beowulf and learned that I really need to change my screen. Its just too small and mapping just takes too much space. I know I have to start learning the hot keys. Its just pretty hard learning all the hot keys of Photoshop, Illustrator and 3ds Max and not accidentaly mixing up the three. :( I'm hitting my 30s by 2009, but before that arrives I got to be

Headache

demoralizing . I saw the job openings for 3ds max people and it seems they prefer young people 25-28. Anyway i didn't let that get me down, I was working on the beowulf and figured out some kinks in 3ds max. I don't know why people go through the trouble of learning Maya? I mean learning max is hard enough but Maya? Not to mention that no one pays more for having learned both. Since 3ds Max is the Game Standard and has been around longer, I'll just stick with it. Anyway I'm supposed to learn game engines next. Do they expect me not to have a life that I would have time to learn to do everything in Max and Maya and a Game engine? Then there are the ton of game engines around. Colon trouble . I'm at the age where you can get it and its common enough, and I'm sure enough of you guys know what I'm talking about. Anyway, Its sucks having to stop reading in the toilet and really count my fiber grams per day. I'll try those other fiber drinks as well, you c

Secrets of Unwrap UVW.

Leveled up . Ok I figured it out and I now know why its a closely guarded secret. For the laymen who read this, the tech term above is the surface mapping tool that allows 3d artists to place images correctly on a 3d surface. This is made really hard because of the complexity certain objects have and the hundreds to thousands of "faces" that need to be mapped. I have a new found respect when I see a 3d complex object. learning this has open up some new possiblities and how to fix some problems I've been having before. At least I now know how to apply an image on a face I am modeling. I wonder if there is a standard for testing what I have learned. I want to know how far I have gotten. I know I'm already well beyond the 9 units of 3ds max I took up in school. But whats my level, at Unwrap UVW I feel like I've gotten a finger hold on to what may be a professional level but just a fingertip worth. What is left is to bring a number of fingers up eventually heave mysel

Blue Coral Critique.

Nice website, alot of misleading advertising though. Oh yeah don't believe what they say on those "beach" blogs, your better getting the deal from a customer than someone who had something to gain from saying something about it (we found a recomendation from a blog). 1st thing you feel is the P950 buffet and snack. P100 (alegedly*) for a snack of ham and cheese sandwich with juice, P350 (alegedly*) x3 for a buffet of rice, 2-3 carenderia viands, instant soup, and something for desdert (a banana or a can of mixed fruits with cream). Its accep[table to charge 350 for a buffet but to charge it to carenderia buffet which should cost arond P100 in manila is highly. Tip. Don't get the meal, talk your way around it. Just get viands or bring some rations that would last you the overnight stay. Your better off getting their P100 ala carte meals. If you look at their ala cart meals closely spending up to what you would pay on a buffet would leave you more satisfied. After all

Its all in the Cards.

Graphics Card vs RAM . Graphic cards can cost as much as P7000 ($150) and Ram cost as much as P4000 ($100), and I'm wondering what can help me render graphics faster (in 3ds max) and do my work all faster. From What I've dug and from what may be obvious Graphics cards will definitely help with performance but I've heard that it doesn't help in rendering. Rendering time is what kills my productivity since I'm board out of my mind figuring out stuff when the computer is lagging. Job . Looking for a 3ds Max Job here in a the philippines, I'm a graduate of Graphic Design and only recently brushed up my 3ds Max skills... yet I can't find a decent job that would allow me to excel in it. I'm learning a lot on my own but I need a job for upgrades and expensive licensed programs :(

Random Thoughts

Ott . hehe, yeah its hard to eat but you need to eat it. Its not even about a matter of it being good for you, when you reach a certain age. Personally my body makes me regret missing a day of fiber. On other things . 3ds Max . Hit a wall in my learnings of the program. My mesh is too complicated to create a decent template where I can map images on it's surface. I had to start again from scratch. I hope I learn what I need to learn before the month is over as I am making my portfolio. Yahoo Answers . Nice place but its hard to find questions pertaining to my field. There was one that was challenging and I could have answered. What was the conversion of trenision to solidus in the 8C?" but there was nothing I could find what a Trenision is except for an arabic page which google translated roughly. Research . As I've filled my head with data from Lisa J. Steele's Fief, I'm tackling what was the image of peasantry during the Spanish Era of the Philippine History. F

Lunch and a Web Cam

Image
This was lunch . Kimchi, Fried Daing na Bangus, Brown Rice and Egg. I even used an egg ring. If I were to have money to start a breakfast place, I'd open one here in our building's vacant ground floor space and serve meals like these for delivery to the condo's nearby. I'll offer alot of different vegetable meals for those who are challenged to eat them.

Kimchi + Fried Daing na Bangus + Brown Rice

I hate vegetables, but I like Kimchi. I need some meat, but Fried De-boned Milkfish is enough for me. I need a lot of fiber, so brown rice and kimchi are important to my "Process". I liked the combination so much, I started ignoring the fried egg. If it is good enough to make me forget the egg, then its pretty damn good then. Anyway, I have to resupply in brown rice when I get back after dropping off chat. I still have to buy breakfast at Mcdo cause its too early to cook and clean after working out. Once I get a job I won't be able too cook myself daing na bangus anymore but I can probably pack some brown rice and kimchi for lunch. The kimchi in Unimart tastes like crap compared to where I get my kimchi from and you can't tell how long its been there so it only lasts a two days before it grows stuff on it.

Couple exersizes: Co-Op computer games

Shadowgrounds . The cooperative play in shadow grounds is an affordable way to have a co-op play without the a console device such as the Xbox or PS systems. Although it is best played with multiple Keyboards and Mice than with game pads. My wife had a lot of fun playing shadow grounds with me even if she got the crappy controls. It didn't settle well with me that the game pad controls were like such, anyway we will try to get a second keyboard for P100-150. Anyway, I have a choice in spending 5k to fix the computer we have now to LAN with the Lap Top OR buy a game console. With Two Worlds and Loki offering Multiplayer RPG via LaN, the console is too expensive at 7k.

Laptop Repair in Megamall and Bad Parents

When I got my adapter repaired in Mega I first went to SST laptop n PC shop the guy told me 2 hours and 100 pesos diagnosis. After 2 hours we came back and found that he said water got in and burned out the adapter. We know that water wasn't the cause and we weren't electricians. We had to pay P100 for nothing, They offered us P3,200 for a new adaptor. Looking for better prices we stumbled on SOS, a few steps nearby in the same Cyberzone. An older gentleman asked us what we needed and we asked if they had an adaptor. We showed to him our broken adaptor and he immediately brought us to his desk to evauate it for repair. He then explained to us in a way we undestood what was wrong and It wasnt that it got wet (as the guy is SST said) but the transmission fluid leaked out due to overheating. He wasnt quick to dismiss the adaptor but said it would take a week of labor to fix it P500 and P300 for parts. We got an adaptor from them at P1,200 and got our adaptor repaired (because the
