The Guys are interested in playing Mahadlika . Its been a long while ago since I've touched on that subject again. Anyway, its nice that I may be finding some players in trying out a HISTORICAL Philippine inspired epic. Just wanted to rave about that. The all caps Historical is from my frustration with the generation of today, not drawing more inspiration from our own tragic and contemplative history. Printer . Ok, spent morning until now fixing the printer. Got it to finally print Cyan. But got my Hands stained with ink. Anyway, printing out a 500 page book, almost finished with the last 12 pages. Next week will be the flip side and then off to UP or La Salle to get them Cut and Bound. sinc 40 pages takes about 4-5 hours, it will take a pretty long while for it all to print. Fortunately, while I work, It helps to know some other work is getting done. Love how cheap I can keep my printing budget.

because I'm writing something . POed about a situation but I'm working right now and I have something to prove once all my hard work pays off. Looking back at my life, I had to prove a lot, even now I'm still proving stuff (like my potential employers). But I've weathered it and now Its easier to weather it with my wife covering my back. I have to thank great friends and loved ones who encouraged and helped me keep faith in myself. I know some people will criticize what I do. I've gone through that back and college, but I still ended my degree with the best thesis and offers from game companies. I had offers from Department of Culture and Arts. And, thanks to Thomas, I have interested parties abroad. Still, some people need a paycheck as proof. I don't blame them but what they should think about is WHEN i get my paycheck. What will happen to them then? Did I just prove everything they said was false, Did I just prove that dreams are worth fulfilling and people

haven't been posting lately . Been writing and thinking a lot. Anyway, hung out with Thomas and Kath yesterday and caught up. Nothing much to talk about except the article i'm writing. Wonder where I can get it edited, it supposed to be a thousand words. Right now the printer is messing up and I have to bring it out for repairs, draw some card illustrations, and work on some research.

Progress . Its strange when I'm making a card game based on GURPS. I gave up designing card games back in college but, strangely this all makes sense. The system I outlined is original and based on historical warfare. Of course I took the "bowed" or "Tapped" element to keep track of cards that have acted. Otherwise it combines GURPS realistic human stats and applies them in a simple card game to resolve mass battles. Encounters . Whats the point of mass battles unless you can zoom in to the thick of the action. Usually players get to role-play the first few seconds of a engagement. Large numbers fighting can take a while and highlighting some scenes has some movie-like storytelling aspects. Depends on how much time the GM has, he can play out a battle where there are different opponents and different situations. Objective . The Card Game is supposed to replace the old mass combat system. It has less tables, less ambiguous, provides more options for the players and allows them to make real tactical decisions. Using the same GURPS rules in a different format allows for an alternate style of play in the same category where Dungeon Crawls are part of. Adventures centered on mass combat provide an organized and controlled environment where players can use typically overlooked set of abilities and set a different tone for the game no one in the industry has attempted. Why is GURPS important part of the Card Game ? Units and Leaders are created with the GURPS system. Their attributes, skills and abilities translate to the card game allowing for a balanced customized unit and leader creation. Conan . Played conan... er I mean Civ4 last night. Man, Boudica is powerfull. Few things for first time Boudica Users: 1- Get Theocracy or Feudalism ASAP (both are best). 2- Do not promote City Raider, Get Guerrila III ! 3- Forget Reserach, Focus on Espionage and Crush them to submission. 4- Slavery is your friend. Start the game with two very large food sources and watch your cities boom. Use Slavery to build Stone Henge, as your Charisma will provide additional happiness. Build Build and Build Celtic Warriors or what I call Conans. Allocate 20% With Withdrawal chance of 50% theses guys are lethal. Do the same for your archers since its a dual edge when you build on hills. Queen Conan game. When you have built enough, build missionaries galore and spread to all your neighbors. Everyone will be developing tech, You'll be developing I wasn't planning much but I was able to get many units to level 5-6 my little Conan Army. Of course I'm the worst leader ever :))

Had my game . Doubt there will be a second one, but you never know. I'm glad they enjoyed and so did I. Its been a year plus since I last GMed and it was a painfull memory to look back on despite my own efforts. People are People, as i grow older I begin to understand more about the elements that are lost in youth. Second chances don't happen as rarely as one might hope, doing well on a second chance is more likely to fail when the pressure bears down on you. I'm just glad people enjoyed, despite my obstacles. hosting without a maid is very hard, GMing and being the host is enough for me to think it may not be worth it. Thinking on your feet, answering the phone, remembering the notes, reacting quickly, reading your players, keeping from being overwhelmed, etc. etc. is all hard. Thats why I offer my services as GM assistant. Its a hard task, a little help makes the game better for everyone. If I had to grade myself it would be a C-. Anyway, its been more than a year since I

Bottom line : Had fun. and felt very much appreciated, especially when the resident history expert grilled me while I GMed. I have to say, Nikos can get a Phd in history if he wanted to (he's that good). And I'm surprised to pass many of his questions. Feel pretty good about myself. Details . Too bad the guys didn't aid the Ventian ship, it would have certainly to their favor it they did. War with Milan has been difficult for the Ventians, even when Florence has allied with them. Much needed supplies or crucial aid when they needed goes a long way. Even if they were on a genoes fleet, a Greek Admiral commanded it, and PCs arguing over piracy in front of a man who was about to lose his homeland was pretty insensitive of the crew. Other than that, they captured the galleys as they were rowed by slaves happy enough to aid the PCs once the crew jumped ship. They even capture Batahglu Pasha (the Blockade admiral). Frustrated if I do and Frustrated if I don't . Spiritual and Imperialistic are HARD to use. All my old strategies don't work anymore in Beyond the Sword as the AI is retooled :(. Lessons learned. -Instead of playing again and again to till i remember the tribal village location I'll just use map editor and plan from there. -Medieval Age is the strength of Byzantine Civ. Work to build specialized many specialized cities. Then switch to Feudal, Theocracy etc. etc. -Consider the enemies best AGE and consider it in the strategy.

A common misconception . Armor was not designed for body builders of herculean strength. Most armors would be comfortable to wear for the average policeman or soldier fit for standard duty. That is, the average full suit of armor with helmet, would be around 30lbs-40lbs. Unfortunately my GURPS pet peeve is that the armor weights were very poorly researched. One particular is Limb Scale armor. Heavy limb scale armor did not come in sleeves or leggings. Scale armor, being rigid did not come in these forms, instead they cam in either skirts or wide shoulder guards which were more like small shields (like the ones the Japanese armor is known to have, its not exclusively a japanese armor accessory). One of the most common limb armor is actually metal bands woven over a leather backing and stitched together. Another pet peeve is that a full suit of heavy armor would weigh 110lbs.
