Race Issues? Information Age Maturity
This news tidbit has added to the "critical mass" lead me to my recent speculation.
Population, Race, Economics and Problem Solving. Since Japan has always been nonvocal about their anti-immigration stance leaving discussion quietly dead, it is quite interesting how the tables are going to turn in the next few years. I can understand and sometimes sympathize the threat of "invasion" of one's home as their culture is displaced by the more populous immigrants who take their own culture with them. Japan is a ancestor worshiping culture, and the past holds a very severe grip on their psychology allowing them to quickly sacrifice everything and their identity for the best interests of their hive.
I've gotten the Idea from traveller and slowly I'm seeing the pattern in my readings. Specifically concerning an age where Natural or Manufactured Resources and Technology doesnt become the primary armies in the battle field of economics instead the primary focus is in population. As population reaches critical mass in forcing a balance in the distribution rights and freedom, If quality of life means less children then eventually if all societies in the world will be struggling to bring up population and will create a Freemarket of human labor. Basically, countries move past some of its cultural restricitions and identity and attempt to win over migrant population to put them in the winning game.
As the Information Age Plataues awareness of other cultures and hopefully acceptance will create a foundation by which Goverments (A body that provides basic services, laws and regulation to a People) will be trying to get the biggest PRODUCTIVE population regardless of origins. Economies of scale will cheapen services, Nationalized Services are made more efficient not just by the criticisms and democracy of its citizens but for the Free Market for immigrant population. Capitalism making Socialism work (hahaha!).
Here we see complexities and details of a situation working towards a more effective solution when we Choose to look at the details and not simplifying the factors in order to meet complex solution.
As immigrants are automatically associated to poverty, people without even thinking about it see immigrants as a negative. What makes them negative and causes the poverty that is associated with immigrants is the marginalization that comes with the status. Less opporunities, fairness, and overall disdain causes the immigrant population to start at the very bottom, and this may create a viscious cycle that will keep them there.
Information Age. In GURPS we are in the Information Age (TL8). I talk about maturing Information Age technology in light of what we are learning about the Human Mind in regard to Attention, Concentration, Productivity and Efficiency.

After TL8, after the Information Age. Because of the Variety of the Universe there will be Tons and Tons of Reference Material Created and available. People are Expected to Learn and Master the Fundamentals but not Everything and Are expected to work with References heavily. It is assumed in this Sci-Fi Setting that Sentient Judgment Augmented with the Vast Power of Information Technology is still the Primary force that makes the Universe Spin.
Expect TL10 to have mastered all the technology relating to References as many applications have access to personal translators (Augmented Reality Eyeware being a Common fashion).
