Pathfinder mission. Checking my gear I was carrying 36ish pounds. That makes my strength in GURPS officially at 9. No surprise there. Anyway there was a lot of things that sunk in and now I can't recall. Basically, I learned that my cheapness has allowed me to learn what I am willing to have and at what price.

Reading vs Actual Experience. Of course we can never discount the value of experience... but many discount the value of bookish knowledge. Knowledge that gave a new dimension to what I experienced and improved my learning curve. Many things I have read and observed are affirmed and give way to a whole lot of sense in the ebb and flow of combat.

the interesting thing is that my knowledge is more on archaic warfare and much of what was true then is true now. there are certain limits in complexity and human capacity that changes very very little in time. To think the average roman was less than 5ft and still had the same combat load as modern man.

Survival and Navigation 101. 1 liter of water an hour of strenuous physical activity, human endurance even with rest ca only go so far beyond 5 hours a day making 5+ liters at about 11+lbs is the expected necessary load to be packed. A camel back with a bladder can keep 2 liters (and with proper improved insulation cold for most of those hours). Jugs and thermos bottles carry the rest of the liquids.

If your boots are even a little BIT loose invest in some inner sole padding and THICK socks. It may be hot for your feet but the socks draw moisture away and prevent chaffing.

Missions for Newbies. Lets talk about Costs:(my ideal load out)

Mask P280
Balaklava P50
Pistol Belt and ALICE gear (basically what they call Web Gear) P150
6 Magazine Pouches P720 (120 each; i prefer this over a load bearing vest which will add to the heat and weight. Originally these vests are for body armor so in an airsoft game you really don't need it except for looks*)
Bladder and Camel back P800
Pair of Soccer Socks P140 (high against chaffing and the very longs spikes of the undergrowth)
Camo (Terno w/c means top and pants) P1400
Cammo Net 150
Boots P700 to P1200 (Choose from hiking boots or military boots)
A good insulated jug would cost around P500+

Pros and Cons Military boots. The grain of military boots are much deeper and the sole much thicker. Allows you to step on spiky areas and gives you only about an inch of elevation over hiking boots when in wet conditions. Of course its cheaper.

Hiking Boots. COMFORT, in a 5 hour hike discomfort wears you down as much as the terrain.

*According to Vegitius and Belisarius a soldier should feel proud of his gear and his equipment if he is to win a battle.
