Evolution: Traveller Races

Its hard to imagine Alien truly being Alien. Like that philosophy that we relate God has human aspects because it would be unfanthomable to imagine any other aspects. So instead of having Aliens in my traveller universe, I made all the races of Human stock and gave them divergent evolutionary paths.

The Darrians are an example of what Factors it would take for Matriarchy to be successful. Drawing from what I've learned about why matriarchy fails in primitive human society, developed the Darrians (the Elves of Traveller) to be a successful Matriarchy during its most primitive history. It lead to a pretty alien perspective but within an imaginable level in my PoV.

The Genoee are the opposite extreme. Drawing upon why males are larger than females and the factors that would heighten male dominance. The end result is a race that treats women as property or basically a race where women don't exist (because it is not women as we know them.. as people). Its not that its Ultra-chauvinism because their is no conflict in their gender roles Instead they find the females as a completely Alien matter.

The original Traveller Genoee were Ultra-Chauvinists, I went a different direction for both political correctness and flavor. To the Genoee Human Women are more alien aliens. They do not have the duality or the concept of balance of humans have in the element of gender and spirituality. Instead they are a folk that are always obsessed and can never attain such satisfaction. Their only manner of attaining balance is through work, competition, dominance or conflict. On the other hand, they still have females but do not consider them as the same race as they are. Because their females have adapted very differently, they have evolved heightened fertility traits that leave other human races at awe.

The Aslan was originally a Lion race. I made them an experiment of how a people who moves through time with antiquated ideals of Leadership, Community and Society. Basically Cross Spartans, Mongols, and the Feudal Warrior Caste of every human culture and you have a race that is very much in touch of their baser instincts but have made and very environment with in their culture. Self Oppressive but with always a Violent approach to things they are supposed to be the Warrior people. I based them on the Ottoman Empire crossed with Feudal Western Europe and subtle environmental elements that have developed a truly Imperial and Feudal mindset in all its levels of society.

Not that original compared to the others but its a chance to use Medieval RPing elements and mindset in a Sci-Fi game (other than fading suns). Because of their ridged class structure Technology develops at a snails pace although they have a Awesome Tooth to Tail Ratio. The millenniums of selective breeding have somewhat altered much of their own genetics and acquiring Terran genetic technology have made their nobility into ubermen.

Then there is the Vargr. Its pretty simple, its a people that evolved with a 1-2 year long winters. One of the best survivalist people and because of their natural hostile environment they have minor but noticeble features that make them a different RP experience.
