[Fears] Current Status of Computer Industry

A computer company was being handed to us, around in 2011, on the condition we hire their personnel. It was a prisoners dilemma when it came to personnel. Loyalty is the only guarantee they would stay until its profitable, and we had our own monkeys on our back to support.

I learned a lot about computer programming services for the Philippines that year. I got involved with our own computer company and it was incredibly bloated and unprofitable. it was a mess of personal relationship, unreliable gov't based business, unreliable business deals, and big overhead.

We had our own mess, and I of course had the better judgement of not rocking the boat. Now things might change and we may cut out the cost burden. And the cost burden has found an exit strategy, a way for them to land softly.

When HP cut 22,000 jobs in about the same time in a deal, they kicked us out a project after partnering with us it just added up to the many computer professional job cuts and that even we experience. As Multinational Players consolidate, they shrink as they only need to invest in machinery and they only need so many people per machinery. At around 2011 siemens closed many of its ops. Many other BPOs consolidated its programming campaigns in the 2011 dip.

I thought there was enough room for everyone, but when the Bigest Players kill out the smaller players the economy shrinks despite being more efficient. My economic studies do give insight to the merits of Market Efficiency, but when most of the professionals are paying for their own studies and schooling - market correction is too expensive and out of reach for many professionals who paid so much and got into debt just to have the skills of an overloaded market.

I'm fine as an open source person, whose family business keeps myself employed. But a smaller economy does not help and the inefficiencies of smaller business eating business that bigger businesses can easily take employs enough people to grow a buffer in hard times. There is no welfare in the Philippines to protect professionals.

Am I against efficiency? Well if they're going to take away the jobs, they better provide for those people who are being shuffled around. Thats the funny thing of our slowly tightening our belt, we have given a chance for people to land softly.

At the current trend only the Big Players will win, and 9:10 they do win all the time. Computer systems are Asymmetric Market, with no one but industry expert knowing where technology really stands. Few experts and futurists may have a clue and know how to find out, bust most of the time its a Game of Confidence. Now its stacked more and more against start ups in the Philippines, I am scared for my future.

I really need to get back to my computer studies. Particularly manufacturing, despite being more comfortable learning languages like Mandarin and Japanese.

Open Source and the Maker Movement is important for the survival of the family business. A Manfucturer with advance maker skillset will survive employed by other manufacturers or finding a niche for their own business.
