The Stars

Got into sci-fi lately. Bit off more than I could chew. It will take me weeks to "build" this setting up. Basically it is a sci-fi setting set in our own Solar System in a new age of frontier. I've found a Hard Sci-fi way of populating/ colonizing worlds and with minimal "hand-waving".

Technology. The solar system has a lot of resources, the question is where does adventurers fit in and how has technology progressed in my sci-fi setting.

Computers. The technology will Plateaus according to Murphy's laws. Adventurers, Colonists, and Explorers are more dependent on reliability than computing power. Look at Army electronics, because reliability is the main concern tech has not progressed much.

Many will use a Linux based OS that does everything computers now can do but with fewer bugs and for free. Unfortunately, because of the lack of money in such OS its development is at a snails pace. Corporate hold on OS programing will more in Personal Palm computers and dedicated systems. Most people will reserve a desktops, to run the more robust open-licensed OS.

Internet. 99% crap and filled with viruses. The only place you will find the Truth, is in places where they will hide it along with a whole ton of crap (like free speech communities where nothing is left sacred).

AI. If human nature will always be flawed, since there is no actual definition of "Normal" the offsrping of human sentience is extremely flawed. Those that are stable and grow, become an offspring that moves to far away it's parent's expectations or desires.

FTL. Never Gonna Happen.

Magneto-Gravity. In use, but only in heavy machinery and never for life support.

Energy Tech. We will never develop a battery that runs for 200 years, or anything that will take out-live the people who made it. Energy is VERY finite, except for that of solar cells. Everything in consumable and tech depends on consuming many lesser elements. People will still depend on combustion, steam (in nuclear power plants), and will continue to mine for these consumable resources.

Earth. The mother world has become a paradise at the expense of billions of souls who slave in hive cities built in the less hospitable geography of the planet, far from the eyes of the nobility that rules her. Through the resources of the whole system, this population continue to grow at an exponential rate, stemmed only by the demand of skilled laborers of the colonies and the hopes of those for a better life amongst the stars.

Mars. In my sci-fi setting, populating a world with 0.5G and exposing the populace to first generation genetic-augmentation made the Mars Populace the first Alien life form. They have changed so much to adapt to the harsh and debilitating world they colonized that they have strayed far from the human genetic type. After mars, 1g tech and better life support tech took away the need for heavy genetic modification.

Venus. the only planet populated with the minimalist adaptation. as the atmosphere is still too toxic and the gravity too strong, people have come to live in habitations that float on the heavy atmosphere. Their habitats are built on Space Elevators and are made to be buoyant because of the dense atmosphere. A run-away jungle is slowly growing in Venus (inspired by Nausicaa) and it is converting the world in a hundred years at the least.

Moons of the Gas Giants. Most of these spherical satellites have been converted to successful colonies with thriving agriculture and communities. Technology has allowed to keep these spheres stable despite increasing its revolutions to a point that it negated its slight gravitic pull and created 1G within its equatorial zone. Colonists have built sealed and secure giant subterranean valleys lit by the ionized atmosphere that floats in their ceiling core-ward.

These colonies have become the new frontier, trading essential goods thanks to the efforts of Free Traders who have allowed the economies of these colonies to flourish.

Nobles, Gunslingers, Knights, Fast Talking Salesmen, Powered Armor, the Church, Robots, Elves, the Zaibatsu/Corporations,
"Magic", the Aliens, Dwarves, the Spartans, Heroes, Villains etc. etc.

I'll be using Traveller and GURPS vehicles to make ships that consume hydrogen or carbon fuel and spin to create artificial gravity. Thanks to advances medicine, humans are given an inner ear modification (basically 3D spacial sense) that allows them to be immune to it's nauseating effects.
