looking before you leap

games again. Exposure to my wife's work has given me a good sense of business. I asked the boards if the booklet would be legal and if it doesnt break any rules, I was worried if mentioned using my booklet i might hurt the feelings of SJG.
I've been looking at it critically and SJG has a great product but a poor development. I really think they should make it more user/player friendly and adopt a format that would be easier for newbies to pick up.

As I understand, gaming has cycles and people leave and join the hobby all the time. The hobby is fairly new but has reached 30+ years and is beginning to phase out a large number of its population. RPG is only being kept afloat because of the basic demographic, but doesn't do much to draw in more. Because, it can't gaming takes more time than computer games, less accessible, has more prep time, and requires the players to coordinate with different schedules.

It has to get new blood... and a lot of it. Although, its too late, the model by which they make their profit is through 2 books, the basic set. The basic set is supposed to be like the PHB BUT it lacks the quick and easy playability of the DnD Core Books.

This leaves much of the Work on the GM and much of the success of the system's approval from the GM. The system or the books don't make his job easier... infact it complicates it because the options are just too many and left to the GM to organize.

4E and e-publishing's advantage is wearing thin, its already been 2 years since they launched. Competition has become stiff and SJG have to consider carefully their business model.

mahadlika game. The key element of a starting RPG is a good fan base. Firefly, Buffy and Lord of the RIngs are RPGs that are not made by the more prominent RPG publish companies, but still make good margins. Base is very important and from that you can create a platform of a successful RPG.

Mahadlika game has a long way to go. Although its one of my favored ways to tell the story: interacting with the audience. Their responses, their feelings and the shared experience for me would be the best way to be part of this world.

I might as well work on the book instead and figure out the best possible arrangement to make it as user/player friendly as possible. I plan to use a cards, cardboard cut-out figs, easy to carry booklets and updated zines and maps to maximize both marketing, packaging and playability.

still, it all begins with a good portfolio, work to pay the bills, good work relationship, focus, determination, and balance.
